Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite – light version of the flagship Mi 8, a fairly powerful smartphone with interesting cameras and a stylish and fashionable case. From older brother differs more narrow monobrow, chipset and cameras simpler, IPS-screen instead of AMOLED and lack of NFC. But in general, he looks interesting for his money – after all, for the average price tag is offered almost a bonus device. At the same time, he may not like the lack of a memory card slot, FM radio, a headphone jack and the ability to pay from a smartphone. You can complain about not the original design, but this applies equally to all modern models.
The Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite simply has to look fashionable, which means that it got an extended “frameless” screen with a monobrave in the spirit of the iPhone X. The back panel fancifully flashes, there is a horizontal double camera and a round fingerprint scanner – roughly, that is similar to the Huawei Honor 8, only the lenses are united by a common rim and stick out of the case (like the iPhone 8 Plus). It turned out the next set of cliches, besides not the most practical, but it looks all stylish, beautiful and with not quite common colors.
With the controls all like everyone else – the power button on the right with a volume of loudness, on the left a card tray, and from below a microphone, a speaker and a USB Type-C. The mini-jack fell victim to the flagship disease, although this is not what we would like to see a resemblance to the older Xiaomi Mi 8.
Dimensions of the novelty – 156.4 x 75.8 x 7.5 mm, weight – 169 grams. If you take the Oppo F7 and Huawei Mate 20 Lite (both with about the same diagonal), then it turns out that all three almost the same size and weight, just like the design of the front panel. The body materials have not been announced yet, but it is unlikely to be plastic, and it is also clear that the back is flashing and shimmering with gradients of colors, which means that it is either glass or a special coating.
Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite can be purchased in the following colors: gold, blue and black. The first two options are more bizarre in the light.
The display of the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite is large, with a diagonal of 6.26 inches. According to the latest trends, it is stretched and got the aspect ratio of 19: 9, it is slightly higher than the standard 18: 9 due to the notorious iPhone-like bangs on top. In fact, not much is known about the screen, the IPS-matrix, the resolution of 2280×1080 pixels and the contrast of 1500: 1. The image is clear, the density of pixels is 403 per inch, but nothing is known until now, only the presence of different image modes with the adjustment of the color temperature.
Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite has got quite advanced for its level of camera – double for 12 and 5 MP and front for 24 MP. With a certain stretch, they can be called almost top. The main one is equipped with the Sony IMX363 sensor (like the Zenfone 5 and Xiaomi Mi 8), it’s large, 1 / 2.55 “in size, with large 1.4-micron pixels and a slightly larger aperture, f / 1.9, there is a phase autofocus with Dual Pixel technology The additional model is simpler, with Samsung S5K5E8 sensor, f / 2.2 aperture and 1.12 micron pixels, its main task in this case is to measure the depth of field for blur shooting.
The front camera on the 24 MP uses the Sony IMX576 sensor (the same can be seen with Oppo F7, Huawei Nova 3 and other heavyweights). On the one hand, too high resolution results in small pixel sizes, but in this case it is promised that the Super Pixel technology will allow collecting information from 4 pixels and combining it into one big one. But then it is asked, what was the reason for splitting them initially?
A set of communications Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite modern, but not that flagship:
- dual-band and high-speed Wi-Fi a / b / g / n / ac, DLNA and Wi-Fi Direct
- LTE support
- Bluetooth 5.0
- A-GPS, as well as GLONASS and Beidou.
There is an accelerometer, a gyroscope, a compass and a fingerprint scanner. Chip NFC is not here, apparently still not in rank, only for the older Xiaomi Mi 8. The smartphone has two slots for nanoSIM cards and a modern USB port Type C.
Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite is equipped with a battery with a capacity of 3350 mAh, this is neither much nor little, the average for such sizes. Certainly enough to last one day, but hardly longer. For comparison, the new Meizu 16X has 3100 mAh, while the Honor 8X has 3,750 mAh, but the screens are correspondingly smaller and larger. The manufacturer promises up to 5 hours of work in games, after tests of a large number of smartphones, we can say that this is a result of slightly above average. Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite supports quick charging QuickCharge 3.0, but comes with a normal charger for 5V and 2A.
Productivity of a novelty can be estimated as above average or close to top. Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite received the eight-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor (a pair of clusters, one for four 2.2-GHz cores and another for four 1.8 GHz cores, a smart but energy-efficient architecture called Kryo260, Adreno 512 as a video accelerator). The same is used in a number of premium models: Asus Zenfone 4 ZE554KL, Meizu 15, Xiaomi Mi A2. Yes, they are not flagships, but they can be called advanced. You can complain only that this is not a new chipset, Qualcomm already has solutions that are fresh and more powerful. Although it is worth chasing them, they will increase the price, besides there are such proven options, which are enough for everything that is needed. All smartphones on the Snapdragon 660 get about 5500 points in the benchmark GeekBench and at least 100,000 in AnTuTu,
With the memory of the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite, everything is in order, there are versions of 64 or 128 GB permanently, and the operational can be 4 or 6 GB. It is interesting that they did not “exchange” for the modification to 32 GB, apparently decided that it would not be flagship. By the way, it makes sense to shell out at once to the maximum volume, as the smartphone does not have a memory card slot, as with other flagship models of the company – Xiaomi Mi 8, Mi 6 and even Xiaomi Mi A2.
Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite received a new version of Android 8.1, but with its own interface MIUI. Not bad, almost certainly it will eventually update to Android 9. not to mention the update of its own firmware.
From Xiaomi you always wait for a democratic price and Mi 8 Lite is no exception. Sales of new items will begin on September 25, the following prices:
- 4/64 GB will cost from 175 euros (13,700 rubles)
- 6/64 GB is estimated at 210 euros (16,400 rubles)
- 6/128 GB will cost 250 euros (19,500 rubles)
The prices are interesting, although there are competitors, and the same Xiaomi. Take the same Mi A2 – the models are very similar and differ only in small things. The Mi 8 Lite hasa slightly larger battery and screen, but the A2 has a slightly better camera, a “clean” Android, there is an IR port and the back is not glass-shiny. In a sense, Xiaomi Mi A2 looks more practical, although it is not so beautiful.
