The LG presented during the IFA 2018 , technology conference which takes place this week in Berlin, Germany, its first OLED TV 8K .
“LG’s first OLED 8K TV is the result of technological achievement and the next evolutionary stage of display technology,” said Brian Kwon, president of LG Home Entertainment Company. “OLED 4k has played an important role in reshaping the TV industry and LG is confident OLED 8K will do the same.”
The new TV has a resolution of 7680 x 4320 and more than 33 million auto-emitting pixels distributed on an 88-inch screen. In theory, 8K displays offer 4 times higher resolution than 4k models.
The maker expects OLED TV sales in the market to double in 2018 and reach more than nine million units by 2022. With this, “LG will continue to increase OLED’s share in its premium TV portfolio and drive adoption in large-scale OLED TVs, “said Kwon.
Although the 8K TV market is still in the early stages, LG expects it to grow to more than 5 million units by 2022.
The TV is being shown exclusively during the IFA and the company has not given more details on pricing and commercial launch forecast.
